Padabhyanga
This Ayurvedic foot massage is a sub-form of Abhyanga, the most commonly used full-body synchronised oil massage in Ayurveda, and focuses largely on the legs and feet. The treatment relieves the symptoms of overwork and high stress levels and regenerates the body and mind. Stimulation of the vital points on the soles of the feet also supplies the organ systems with new energy.
Padabhyanga can easily be applied at home. Especially in the evening, the massage has a relaxing and releasing effect, calming the mind and ensuring a pleasant night’s sleep.
Instructions
For the massage, prepare body-temperature matured sesame oil, Vata oil or a lavender oil mixture. Spread the oil generously over the foot, massaging the ankle joint and each small joint of the toes with circular movements. Slide your index finger into each toe space one after the other and move your finger vigorously back and forth. Massage the sole and back of the foot simultaneously with both hands. Finish the treatment with slow, stroking movements.
Padabhyanga is suitable for all Doshas and can be enjoyed daily.
