Padabhyanga

padabhyanga foot massage

Heavenly sleep with Padabhyanga

This Ayurvedic foot massage is a sub-form of the full-body synchronous oil massage Abhyanga, which is the most practiced treatment in Ayurveda. It focuses largely on the legs and feet. The treatment relieves symptoms from overwork and high stress levels and rejuvenates the mind and body. The stimulation of the vital points on the soles of the feet also supplies the organ systems with new energy.

Padabhyanga can be done easily at home. The massage has a loosening and liberating effect, especially in the evening. It calms your thoughts and ensures a good night’s sleep.

Instructions

Heat up some mature sesame oil or ghee to body temperature for the massage.

Spread the oil generously on one foot, massaging the ankle and each small joint of the toes using circular movements. Slide your index finger into each toe space, one at a time, and move your finger vigorously back and forth. Treat the soles and backs of the feet with both hands at the same time. Finish the treatment with slow, stroking movements. Then repeat the massage on the other foot.

Padabhyanga is suitable for all Doshas and can be given daily.
