Ayurvedic self-massage for excess Vata

Abhyanga | Ayurveda Parkschlösschen Health Blog

Abhyanga (oil massage)

Application

To begin, massage 2 drops of warmed, cold-pressed sesame oil or a suitable Dosha oil into each outer ear with your fingertips. Then take a tablespoon of oil and rub it into the scalp using slow, circular movements. The entire body is then treated from top to bottom.

You should always ensure that the joints are massaged slowly and gently in a circular motion. In contrast, you should treat the upper and lower arms as well as the legs with long, vigorous strokes. Massage your abdomen gently in a clockwise direction. Abhyanga pays particular attention to the feet, which are oiled longer and more thoroughly. Ideally, you should wait 15 minutes after this full-body massage before showering off the oil with a mild soap. Abhyanga is best performed in the morning after getting up.

Who it is suitable for

For all Dosha types, especially Vata types, as dryness and tension are alleviated. Also for sleep disorders.
