Breath

Breathe in and out deeply. Then close the right nostril with your thumb. Exhale and inhale again through the left nostril for as long as you can, then hold your breath for a long time. Now close the left nostril and exhale and inhale again on the right for as long as you can, then hold your breath for a long time. Increase the length of the breaths and breath-holding over time.
If possible, practise alternate breathing for around 5-10 minutes every day.

Benefits

Alternate breathing calms and balances all three Doshas.

Variation

The pranayama exercise Sun Breathing (Surya Bhedana) has a stimulating and warming effect. Here, you always exhale on the left and inhale on the right.
