Sattva Vijaya

Sattva Vijaya | Ayurveda Parkschlösschen Health Blog

The holistic teachings of Ayurveda are not only concerned with maintaining and restoring physical health, but also with clearing and strengthening the mind. In this context, the method of Sattva Vijaya, which roughly translates as “gaining/promoting purity of mind”, has proven itself over thousands of years. The aim is to achieve harmony and clarity paired with deep inner peace − the best prerequisites for feeling contentment and happiness.

The classic contents of Sattva Vijaya are yoga, meditation, pranayama, listening to or chanting mantras and an Ayurvedic diet. Two further recommendations are explained here:

The right mindset

The be-all and end-all in life is your inner attitude. Stressful or challenging life circumstances in particular are much easier to deal with if you decide to approach everything with love and serenity and simply no longer allow your inner judgement system to play such an important role. You will see that stress hormones are generated less quickly and happiness hormones are released more extensively. Tricks for this include, for example, pulling up the corners of your mouth several times a day until you realise that you are now smiling genuinely. Or even better: learn a few laughter yoga exercises at a laughter yoga class and incorporate this practice into your daily routine or as often as possible, especially during gloomier days. Invite family and friends to join you! Moreover, hugs have been proven to have healing benefits, so hug your loved ones as much as you can. You will mutually benefit from each other’s feelings of happiness. Post colourful notes in a few places in your home with the words “I love life and life loves me” or another motto that makes a big difference to you. And if your mind starts telling you self-sabotaging things again, just imagine switching the inner radio button to a more positive frequency and consciously put yourself in a better mood.

Connecting with nature

Fresh air is our most important source of energy, which is why spending time in nature is essential. Go outside as often as you can. On days when this is not possible, take 5-10 minutes to do calming and clearing pranayama exercises. For example, Anuloma Viloma, alternate breathing, or Brahmari, bee breathing, are ideal and can also be part of a calming bedtime ritual.
