Pranayama, the conscious regulation of breathing, detoxifies at all levels, reduces stress and improves metabolism. The exercises are best carried out in a quiet, freshly-aired room in a relaxed upright sitting position.
Close your eyes. Rapid exhalation or Shining Skull (Kapalabhati) has a particularly detoxifying effect and stimulates the Agni. Breathe deeply in and out. Then with the aid of the abdominal muscles, rapidly force your breath out through the nostrils. Inhale passively.
Repeat this exercise in cycles, beginning with 20 times, 30 times and then pumping 40 times. Between the cycles, breathe in and out deeply 2-3 times.
