Ayurveda and Stress

What does stress signify in Ayurveda?

In the holistic system of Ayurveda, a person is healthy when their individual Dosha constellation of Vata, Pitta and Kapha is in balance and they live according to their very own biorhythm. If prolonged stress comes into play, the Vata Dosha is increased. As a result, the body’s own systems such as the nervous, digestive and immune systems become increasingly unbalanced. The person suffers from mood disorders that can develop into serious illnesses in the long term.

What measures can be taken?

In order to effectively reduce Vata, one should take more time for rest and recuperation, and introduce regularity into daily life (e.g. through Ayurvedic daily routines) in order to activate the body’s regeneration processes. Ayurveda also offers many stress-reducing measures, such as massages and a Vata-reducing diet.
